Never EVER Shake A Baby…

They prefer to be stirred. All kidding aside, this apparently was (these commercials are old, as if it wasn’t fucking obvious) enough of an issue that some organization decided to make a commercial to inform us not to shake our babies! Seriously, people. The ones out there shaking babies know it’s wrong, especially if the kid has been shaken hard enough to be hurt or killed! These ads were created with good intentions, but I believe they missed their mark. Just a note of caution! IF you do shake your baby, take care, because they can explode all over you when you least expect it, ruining a perfectly good pair of shoes and making a mess in general.

Comments, Questions, Complaints?

Today I will be putting together a list of some ideas I’d like to write about. If you have any suggestions or requests please feel free to email me or post them in the comments section and I will work them in over the next month or so. I intend to try to work up to writing 2-3 new articles daily, so check back often for updates/posts or you can subscribe to our RSS feed and view us in your favorite reader. All comments are appreciated, so don’t hesitate to praise/slam my writing and choice of articles. It is you who will keep this blog from turning into a giant pile of breast-fed baby poo.

How To: Fold A Shirt In 2 Seconds.

Oh Japan, you so crazy!  If you stay at home dads are anything like me, you are always trying to find a quicker/smarter/better way to do some of the more mundane duties involved in “keeping your castle”. Well, look no further because I have found the solution to at least one of our problems. Laundry. Yes, I’m going there. I had to share this, as it has actually caused me to, gasp, somewhat enjoy doing laundry! Now don’t get me wrong, I hate laundry with a passion, almost as much as I hate doing dishes, but once I got good at it you couldn’t stop me. Give it a try. Congratulations! You have gone up 1 level in laundry folding. Now if I could only find a trick to doing dishes… Maybe a real “happy” coat?

A Modern Dad’s Hospital Checklist

My wife has the baby’s and her bags packed already, but I haven’t had a chance to do mine so I thought I’d post a quick checklist of things to bring – a modern dad’s hospital checklist, if you will.

Dad’s Hospital Check-List

  • Laptop (must have internets to let everyone know the good news when it happens)
  • Clear modem (hospital internets are balls)
  • Droid X w/ All contacts needed (secondary video camera + point & shoot)
  • Kodak Zi8 (primary video camera + point and shoot)
  • Kindle (hopefully I wont have time for this…)
  • Canon 40D w/ Flash (“The Bad-Ass” DSLR)

Clothes (Shouldn’t be there for more than a couple days)

  • 2 pair socks
  • 2 pair boxer/briefs
  • 2 undershirts
  • 1 long sleeve shirt (she likes it cold…)
  • 1 “Hoodie” (really cold.)
  • 1 flannel pajama bottom (might as well be as comfortable as possible, it’s going to be a long night)

Don’t need to pack jeans or shoes, as hopefully I will be wearing them to the hospital, but who knows, crazier things have happened

  • Toothbrush
  • Cash for valet, snacks, and parking lot
  • Deo for the BO

For my wife

  • Massage oil (DO NOT FORGET)
  • Ipod loaded up with a “mommy” playlist
  • Kindle (for her obsession with Every Word, though she may not have time for this)
  • All the patience I can muster
